CONDUCT PUBLIC REVIEW OF THE YORK AREA METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION (YAMPO)
PLANNING PROCESS
Every four years the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) are required to conduct a review of federally designated Transportation Management Areas (TMA). A TMA is an area with an Urbanized Area population over 200,000. The 2010 Federal Census identified the York Urbanized Area population as 232,045. As a result of the 2012 announcement that the York Area is a TMA, the YAMPO planning process must be reviewed this year to meet Federal requirements.
The primary purpose of the certification review is to evaluate YAMPO’s compliance with Federal regulations. As part of the process, the Federal Team will conduct a Public Meeting to inform the general public about the Federal transportation planning requirements, and provide an opportunity to express their thoughts and comments on community transportation issues.
